The European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (EU CBAM) is a climate policy that aims to prevent the risk of carbon leakage. This risk can occur if businesses regulated under the EU carbon market move their production outside the EU to avoid the carbon price applied to their greenhouse gas emissions, or if EU products get replaced by more carbon-intensive imports.
To prevent the risk of carbon leakage, the EU CBAM will equalize the carbon price applied to EU imports and EU domestic products.
